Emotional abuse can be worse than physical abuse in some aspects. I just find it extra disgusting to use anecdotes from a life lived with his wife to rise to fame only to dump her when he finds an upgrade.

You don’t know the guy. You don’t know the particulars. This is a parasocial relationship.

I also liked him and was shocked to hear about all of that. But I also know that it’s his business, and not mine. He could be a shit, or it could be something different entirely.

I don’t have any idea if there was emotional abuse, but the way it was portrayed in the comments above made it seem like a messy divorce but nothing to imply abuse of any sort. And some rehab chick doesn’t sound like an “upgrade”

A relapsing addict doesn’t unilaterally decide to check themselves into rehab. The first step to recovery is admitting the problem, which pretty concretely confirms there were problems. And you don’t grab “some rehab chick” from a fancy $100k a trip celebrity rehab facility. You find a pretty gold digger.

Ok, but does this justify calling him “human trash”? I usually reserve that phrase for disgusting criminals, not womanizing drug addicts.

I’m really struggling to understand why you’re going out of your way to defend such a sleazy hypocrite. Do you have some personal stake in supporting dogshit behavior from people in the public eye?

Wow this para social relationship is strong. I thought you knew him, as you said “personally”.

Hey stan, let him outta the trunk.

You’re acting like he killed a dude, he’s just an immoral dude, no different than any other celebrity?

Have you ever been in rehab? You’re making a lot of assumptions that are not in my experience.

I just find it extra disgusting to use anecdotes from a life lived with his wife to rise to fame only to dump her when he finds an upgrade.

I’d admit that he had more of a wholesome thing going on in his early career, but that’s a road well traveled in the entertainment industry (there are various examples of this ranging from other comics like George Carlin to bands like the Beatles and pop stars like Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift). People change over time and with fame and which parts of their personality they expose to an audience also change.
