  • Hand tool woodworking. It’s amazing what you can make without a single electron. Its also amazing to feel the tools, the resistance and subtle vibrations as you use them. Like an extension of your own body. I love chiseling, especially large mortises. Hearing that sharp, deep thud, and seeing it sink in as it bites into the wood is so satisfying. Especially when using metal hammers, they are so responsive.

I love sawing, especially when relaxed and working at a slow pace, seeing all the sawdust fly out with each stroke. Sawing isn’t fun when working on difficult pieces of wood, when working in a relaxed manner with softwood, the hoarse sounds of the saw starts to sound like purring and it begins to cut exceptionally well.

I love the finish of handplanes, so smooth it becomes water resistant.

Overall very spiritual and relaxing (as relaxing as you allow it to be at least)

I’m not sure how and I’m not sure why but scooter is unequivocally the perfect title to resemble your cat. Not that he looks like or even reminds me of a scooter but that whenever I see him, it rings in my ears more ferociously than tinnitus ever could, … “scooter”.

Scooter is one of the first cats I began identifying on lemmy because of the sheer perfection of his name in correspondence to physical presence. I would not believe you if you said you thought of any other names, because no other name could be appropriate for him, aside from scooter.

  • From a strategic standpoint, they have no choice. What Hamas is doing is by the book insurgent strategy, that’s been observed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to lesser extents in WW2 and Vietnam.

Commit an atrocity akin to 9/11 to provoke an enemy attack and hide your forces amongst the population. The initial victim (usa, and in this case, israel) must retaliate against such an atrocity, but their only strategic targets are civilian in nature (as all militants are using them as a meat shield).

Once civilian targets are struck Hamas makes pleas to the international community, for aid, sanctions or isolation of Israel. They pander to civilians, as they’ll die whether or not they join the insurgency. This balloons their numbers and combat strength.

On top of that, all forces begin engaging in brutal urban warfare with costly casualties for the enemy.

Israel (to their voters and population) can’t just “let” Hamas get away for the October attacks so they press their advance, civilians be damned. I believe Hamas are as responsible as Israel for civilian casualties and deaths.

No sides are truly right here, it’s merely a brutal dilemma. Not a problem, those have answers, but a dilemma with no good solutions. Potentially be overthrown by an outraged population or slaughter a bunch of civs. You know what all regimes will do.
