  • got it so you’re being disingenuous on the third party hosting thing most people who are computer literate don’t know how to use irc it’s a near dead technology and that’s the thing with discord you don’t have to hope someone will bother to sign up they’re already signed up most people are whether you like it or not and as for the releaf questions again the search feature on discord is really good you just can’t be bothered to adapt to the new reality I don’t like discord either I wish we could nuke all corporations off the internet entirely I wish that people would switch to matrix entirely but you’ve also gotta be realistic dude

  • yeah most people aren’t gonna host it themselves accept that reality so you’re just shifting the burden to an even smaller company too they do disappear it happens and to say otherwise is either moronic or willfully disingenuous and noone under the age of 50 knows how to use irc as for the search engine yeah that’s one downside but that’s ignoring the fact most times you search a problem on a search engine you get a support forum with an auto closed issue cause noone responds to it the same with it closed with a response that was just read the documentation or it closed by the user saying “fixed it” and that’s it and knowing what server to start with isn’t the issue you pretend it is you just put a discord button in the app or the settings page if it’s something bigger than an app

  • anyone that says there’s no history just refuses to learn to use discord discord has a very powerful and easy to use search feature I can find exact conversations from years ago in literally seconds the interface thing is subjective but whether it’s bad or not people know how to use it atleast and the third party could disappear whenever applies to github most forums too this is what I mean by refuse to acknowledge I’ve had fat better experiences with support on discord than any alternative

  • because as much as old people hate to acknowledge it mailing lists and github (and alternatives) suck they’re terrible for actual conversations to try and coax more info out of the user when they ask for support people aren’t logged into those 24/7 a lot of people are with discord and everyone’s familiar with it and already has an account and knows the UI how many people actually have a github account and know how to use it and will actually ever log back in to give more information if asked vs putting a discord button somewhere someone pops in reports the issue then if there’s not enough info you can @ them and they’ll come back as soon as they see it

  • cryptofash that hides behind free speech and allows nazis and that to post in the discord and banned a trans person that called out the messages by those users for “inciting arguments” and repeatedly misgendered them then went on about how they’re not bigoted they just believe in free speech and blamed the user and pretending they were the victim and then when people said they should have a code of conduct he said doing that was just a hassle and how it would make it impossible to do lead dev stuff for him to enforce the rules while saying they have rules against that sort of thing anyway so blatant doublespeak where he’s saying he’s moderating and everyone’s lying but also if he had to moderate he’d be too busy to develop

  • far cry 5 I don’t think many people hate it as such but just view it as repetitive but it was the first one I played and while most people say putting it in rural montana is boring and not exotic like far crys supposed to be I’m english so rural montana is practically an alien planet and the vibes in the game are immaculate just walking through the wilderness between points on the map to do stuff that down time in between is so nice and when you’re going further distances in the car the radio music is so good and while the stories stupid and the ending is god awful every one of the seeds actors were amazing each one of them was so good even if you don’t get that much time with them I’d honestly say far cry 5 is one of my favourite games ever not my favourite that’s fnv and second is mouthwashing but it’s in joint 3rd place with about a dozen other really good games that I can’t honestly say one is better than the other but I truly love all of them for different reasons

  • you’re just going to interpret this is as proving you right and me as a cultist but the thing about no updates on gog is nothing to do with steam that’s the publisher steam doesn’t make them do that there’s no reason it’s the publisher/developers I don’t think valve can do no wrong but I would say steams never done anything bad to me valve includes gambling in all their multiplayer games that are full of children they were one of the earliest companies to make loot boxes their business model though arguably even worse as they gave all the tools for an external economy for those skins and gave the crates out abundantly to encourage you to buy the keys because you already have the crate but the steam division in valve has provided me with a consistently great experience in every way games on there own launcher almost always just work on linux refunds are trivial family sharing is great for making it even cheaper I don’t like drm and I’d use gog more if they didn’t kinda suck from a user perspective but even with heroic playing games on gog is a little jank on linux in a way it just isn’t with steam and gog has literally no family sharing I don’t play games from the shared library much but I like having it when I do and my siblings actually do play some games from my library a fair bit steam/valve is a company like any others that ultimately cares about profit not me or any other customer but unlike other companies they understand the value of long term thinking and good customer relationships they don’t care about me but they know I’m more likely to keep coming back and buying loads of games if they don’t keep trying to screw me over and add lots of good features that save me money and make my experience better

cookie auto delete isn’t necessary you can set firefox to not remember cookies anyway ubo also has filter lists go remove cookie popups though it doesn’t catch all of them so I won’t say consent o matic is unnecessary but I don’t use it and I very rarely see a cookie popup

  • I don’t think it was sliced bread that did that I think it was cars here in the uk I can get pretty good pre sliced bread I’ve had better bread that wasn’t pre sliced from those same shops so definitely pre sliced requires a bit lower quality bread to survive at all but not terrible I’d say I’ve had good pre sliced bread even but there’s also really mediocre not very great pre sliced bread that lasts longer the good pre sliced bread lasts about half a week before going off where the mediocre bland kinda chewy stuff lasts about a week but both are available and I think the difference here is that everyone in america insists on weekly shopping because the nearest shop for you guys is an hour’s drive away due to car industry lobbying while we’re still car centric here and I wish we were better it’s atleast to the point that the nearest shops more like a 5 minute drive or half hour walk for most people double that if your areas bad and for me currently it’s a 2 minute walk down the road I can’t even finish 1 song before I get there if I start it when I leave the door so thank the car and also corn subsidies for terrible american bread not the bread slicer

I love cinnamon it’s the main reason I use mint I tried debian with mint but the theming was ugly but the cinnamon on mint mmm beautiful I find it very comfortable and familiar like all the good parts of windows 7 just with a tad bit more modern design
