  • No they werent on to something because the rationale given doesnt line up with any legit reason to not eat pork. So at best they just were exercising an abundance of caution without understanding why. Pork needs like any meat to be prepared properly for consumption. If its a food they werent very knowledgeable on they wouldnt know how to prepare it safely. So instead of learning how they just banned it.

Now if you want to make an argument for not eating pork with modern knowledge you can. Pigs are extremely smart and even more so than dogs and some studies suggest chimps. So theres the moral argument not to eat it. But that isn’t very convincing to me for pork. All animals are pretty smart and clearly have feelings and emotions and i eat them so why single out pigs to be nice to? I would like to see a transition to lab grown meats eventually, and for farms to treat animals humanely. Its not a very high priority for me on reforming society tho since we dont even treat eachother humanely yet.

Also to get in front of it before someone says “just be vegan/vegetarian then”. I was for like 10 years and eventually had to stop because due to health related dietary restrictions i couldn’t eat enough foods to get all the nutrients i needed. I have allergies and intolerances that if i were to stop eating animal products i wouldnt be able to eat the plant based alternatives that give the same type of nutrients. So i dont have a choice but to eat animals.

  • As far as im aware the native Hawaiians actually request tourists not to go because the island is being destroyed by tourism. Its getting so expensive from tourism natives have to leave. So id go somewhere else. Honestly Florida and Hawaii are both very over-done tourist wise imo. If i were you id consider just getting passports now if you dont have them yet and go somewhere in Mexico. Youll save money and probably have a better experience. Another option if you want like a warm American city on the beach is San Diego California, or somewhere along the gulf coast of southern texas like Corpus Christi.

  • Honestly i do not think your gonna like doing this. If you whole thing is having a tablet with its battery life etc then de-googled android is probably gonna be better for you. Android is based on linux anyway and custom ROMs exist to give you a more privacy focused and in your control OS. Like Graphene OS for example.

If you want linux and a tablet id instead recommend a really slim thin and light 2 in 1. Maybe with detachable keyboard. These are typically made with x86 Chips instead of ARM tho so the battery life wont be as good.

  • why you should be able to disregard this guy’s blog post under the premise that he comes off as someone who’s full of himself.

Have i got news for you. No one has to give a shit about any blogpost. You could make a blogpost outlining the exact way to correctly build a cold fusion reactor for 25$ and nobody would be obligated to give a fuck. Its your job to convince people to give a fuck about what your saying and usually being an asshole is not the best way to do that. Do some introspection.

  • Habitats are risky and not as good as planets imo. It would be trivially simply to sabotage one and kill everyone inside. Just vent atmo into space, poison the air/water, and even a accidental fire could kill everyone who doesnt manage to flee… Planets not so easy. Some of the same attacks work but u can just walk elsewhere.

plus in a habitat your not really thinking of psychological effects. Its been shown for example that humans needs to see big bodies of water regularly to not get stressed out. So youd need to devote significant space onboard to just that. Plus imagine never seeing the mountains again, or a sunset, or the ocean. The earth is intrinsically linked to our evolution and many of its features are far too big to have on a habitat. I mean not to mention all the microbiomes we interact with unknowingly on earth all the time.

While habitats might be an ok solution for some people there are definitely things we will always need a planet for and imo a planet will always be superior in quality of life.
