I know where I live this is true, too, because just a couple years ago some Proud Boy Nazi bastards were holding a “protest” in our city, and like 3 times more people showed up to yell at the shit heads and counter-protest their “protest.” With how often I see MAGA hats, stickers or trump flags out here, it was a pleasant surprise seeing how many people were against these shit stains.

Counter-Counter-Point: Valve literally is the developer that made lootboxes ubiquitous in gaming. The good things they do have and have done still do not outweigh the bad, nor should this fact ever be ignored. They make a good product because it gets them customers. They also were one of the first devs I read about to have hired psychologists to scientifically addict you to games. They are only your friend so far as they understand you can get more flies with honey than with vinegar.
The only thing that doesn’t make it perfect for me is the fact that so many games running on PC, even if they have a console version, don’t have UI scaling options to make anything readable at TV distance.
BUT there is a big difference this time around, specifically: they’re no longer using their own engine. That does change the equation.
I feel like it would be a negative change though, as they haven’t worked with any other engine since… Forever.
I’m gonna just assume it won’t be any different than the crowd system of Assassin’s Creed; which wasn’t even all that impressive back when that first came out.
They said CP2077 would do things no other game did. That was a lie. They are also claiming a new IP they are working on will do the same. I don’t really trust them when they say they will be doing something that’s never been done before because they can barely make things that have been done to death work properly.

I use Lemmy and Tumblr on my phone; but I use my computer for gaming quite a bit.
Reality check is only negative for the person needing one in the sense that they might be upset that their view of reality is wrong.

I’d love to see someone make a “TF2 Classic” where it’s the game as it was on release, but with all the current QOL and fixes; none of the unlockables and hats and all that bullshit. Just pure fucking fun. Oh, and also give us back all the scripting commands they needlessly took away because some players are too dumb to type shit into the console or download someone else’s config.
Wokeness and DEI? At GameStop? I’ve never even seen anyone other than high school aged white dudes working there.
Maybe if they had done that with brand new games and not just a few good but old games and tons of games nobody has even heard of before. It’s not really even in the same league as just genuinely being cheaper than the competition. It’s a gimmick. Steam also sometimes gives games away for free, while still having tons of deep discounts all year long.
I’m the same. I’ll look on Steam first just because I would prefer to keep all my shit in one place, but if it’s not the cheapest price I’ll get it somewhere else. Although 90% of the time, the cheapest price is just a steam key being sold by a 3rd party (I like Eneba, personally).
The one time Epic was cheaper, was when they gave out Civ6 for free. I bought the two major DLC expansions through Epic instead of buying everything on Steam just because I didn’t have to buy the base game and the DLCs were $10 cheaper anyway.
Being consistently cheaper would actually be attractive to many people. The thing is, none of these competitors can even muster that. Steam consistently has better sales, more often. And it’s pretty funny seeing Amazon of all things not able to match or beat that. They are known for undercutting the competition, even at their own expense, just to get customers; It’s literally how they got to be as big as they are.

If I did anything other than use my PC as a glorified gaming console, I might care about w10 not being updated anymore. Until games literally can’t work on the OS, I’ll stay on it. And when they do stop working, I’ll probably just install Linux.
I don’t think it’s that much of a problem considering most of them were made pre-emptively back during the first Reddit migration and simply just never actually got any activity. At least for those on Lemmy.World, the admins are cool enough that if you DM them about taking over such a community, they will likely transfer control over to you. I got !eldenring@lemmy.world this way after noticing it existed but hadn’t been touched since the Reddit API drama and the user who created it had fucked off too.
