Side note: if you’re doing it for privacy reasons, I was reading that self hosting for just yourself will allow people to see what communities you subscribe to, based on what communities are visible on your server.

That’s a newer addition, when it first came out under a conservative Goverment, all welfare was grouped together.

Another thing that could be effecting that is if you have Show Read Posts disabled in your user settings. That might explain why the number of posts went down.

You could try and comment on an older post and see if it the post gets synced with your instance. But in any case, all new posts should sync.
