I’m not so sure. A used Thinkpad comes with everything you need, whereas a PS3 or PS4 also needs a screen and a controller at bare minimum. The Thinkpad also has access to a game library of (checks notes) almost every single game ever made excluding mainly AAA titles from the 2010s onward. The PS3/4 is only the better value proposition if you specifically want to play those kinds of games, or if you highly value plug-and-play ease of use.

  • That first link is pure cold warrior nonsense on par with the black book of communism. As for the second, I defer to the words of Mark Twain:

“THERE were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.”

Truthfully I support all of those revolutions as historical processes which have brought about necessary change, but the Haitians and the Russians fighting for their freedom from Slavery and Capitalism respectively are much more commendable than the Americans doing so because they didn’t want to slow down their westward expansion.

  • I had a friend who did this for a living, he had two phones so he would run Uber Eats and Doordash at the same time in order to try and optimize, and even then he spent a lot of time just sitting around because these apps are extremely inefficient (and later they started cracking down on people trying to increase their pay by doing both, dunno if it’s still doable now).

  • Hear hear for living too far away from DD to be tempted by it. I used to waste a lot of money on it back in like 2021/22, but I moved to a town whose only “fast food” is a burger grill that’s attached to the gas station and run by exactly one guy and if he’s on break when you show up then you can either wait until he’s done or leave and go to the grocery store.

when it’s the state/government/leadership that is using acts of violence

So when a corporation uses or sponsors acts of violence it’s not authoritarianism? I guess Coca-Cola-funded fascist death squads are just smol bean libertarians fighting the oppressive tankie socialists!

You can’t even get your talking points in order. The main people on lemmy.ml are anti-capitalist, they would accuse those who would censor them of being anti-communist.
