It’s definitely more frustrating. I’ve had the same experience trying to help people with their Windows PCs. Thankfully I’ve managed to convince a few to switch to Linux Mint.
No systemd on my void or gentoo builds either.

Void is far from torture. It is just as easy to set up as Arch, if not more so.
Arch is too easy to set up nowadays for it to be a “thing”.
