Fall semester for piano lessons starts today. I’ve been bummed out lately, and learning gives me a place to direct my frustrated energy.

I’ve done a lot of independent learning in the 3 week break, such as playing with software synthesizers and learning some of the new scales a bit better and using them in improvisations.

We just started a book of scale modes before break, and my new song book is of Bartok, who explores many unique and discordant harmonies, so there will be a ton of new concepts for me coming up.

I’ve got a new camping hammock that I want to go out and try out. With a bit of rain during the week the fire danger will drop because a little coze fire is awesome. Not sure how much it will drop but at least it will drop enough for the camping stove. I need my fresh coffee damn you.

And yes we have had a fire ban since last week. Probably lifted now after a good rainy day.

It was one of the many treatments proposed for my spinal stenosis, if that’s what you’ve got going on, then peace be with you! It’s the worst pain I ever experienced.

Yup, I got a pinched nerve between c7 and c6 it makes my arm feel like I broke a bone. Did you recover fully btw? I got a post asking for people’s experiences with this sort of thing if you’re inclined to share. Thanks

Mine is in the lower lumbar and while it did get better, I can’t say I ever fully recovered.

It’s like that old coffee commercial:

“Do you remember your first cup of coffee? Did it ever ‘get any better’? Or did you just ‘get used to it.’?”

I’m sorry it didn’t improve as much.

I can’t say I loved coffee the first time I tried it. It took years for it to get better, and eventually it did. An acquired taste for sure… Hopefully the same applies to my spine? Thanks for sharing

It took, I dunno, 3 years? 2008-2011? Still in pain every day but not as severe. Stretching helps. Meditation and breathing helps.

Pulled pork. Yesterday I smoked a 12 pound pork shoulder for 9 hours, and made tons of macaroni salad, so I’m set for meals this week!

After a super busy friends wedding weekend. I’m just going to sit down and play some mass effect. Just to not do anything at all.

My mentor at work is back from a two week vacation. Looking forward to catching up with him and asking for training on some very specific tasks because I’m 99% certain he’s going to announce his retirement before the end of the year.

Also, looking forward to the North London Derby this weekend (just watching, not attending). International football doesn’t carry my interest at all, for some reason.

The last CHUMP film, after more than twenty years across two different shows they are done.

It is sad, but all good things must come to an end.
