I believe it will happen. In only 1 year, this place went from ghost town to 30+ comments on most posts. Give it a few more years of people spreading the word and reddit continuing to make people go elsewhere, and it will almost be the same.
And if any instance turns into what modern Reddit is, as an user of systems as fragmented as the fediverse (systems being the Linux ones), I can only recommend to hop into another instance, or even make your own while trying to avoid the mistakes that led a given instance to become that.
