!asklemmy@lemmy.ml - ARE YOU A TANKIE? - informal poll results ~
😱
A ridiculous question. “Tankie” isn’t a term anyone self-identifies with, it’s mostly a term used by liberals to hurl at anyone to the left of them or anyone who agrees with western foreign policy. The survey results will be as meaningless as the term “tankie” itself.

ARE TANKIES TAKING CONSPIRING TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BAD TIME ON LEMMY.ML ??
DOES THE WORK FOR YOU!!
WE ASKED !asklemmy@lemmy.ml ARE YOU A TANKIE?
First stack of pie charts shows the yes / no split, highlights that the lemmy.ml yes responses made up less than half of the yes votes, hexbear.net and lemmygrad.ml only made up a small portion, some hexbear-ians even vote no
second and third pie charts show the yes votes, and no votes by instance respectively
third stacked pie chart shows the yes / no split by instance, overlay-ed with the total yes / no votes
only top level comments were counted
tankies are closer than they appear
Deeply unserious

this was fun, thanks for the polling idea, Kristina (I spent too long on these charts because yours looked so spiffy, I hope you specifically are impressed lol), solidarity cleaning that data up, and general reminder people only half read anything before launching into a diatribe
tl:dr yes, tankies are totally conspiring to make sure you have a bad time on lemmy.ml
Tankies broke into my house and moved all my furniture half an inch to the left
okay Ivan; go back to the gulag before putin puts you there. lol
All in all, “Tankie” is just the modern version of “Pinko!” I’ve seen Anarchists called Tankies, every manner of Marxists, non-Marxist Socialists, and more. It truly lost all of its meaning and is just Lemmy’s Red Scare.
A huge portion of that comes from Lemmy.world, which is the largest instance to defederate intentionally from Hexbear and Grad, which has the presumably unintended effect of making Zionists and other far-right wingers feel comfortable in an Anticommunist instance.
lemmy.world has comments in their community, where they call for the nuking of developing countries, when they read news of violence against women. By that logic, their ‘civilized’ land should be nuked thrice, because cartoonishly evil, rich scumbags like Jeffrey Epstein and their associates still have a free pass for raping minors in their creepy sex-dungeons.
Yep, it’s disgusting to see.
I’m starting to realize one of the biggest issues with the fediverse is how much tribalism is going to play a part in interactions between instances. It seems like every instance is going to have some absurd stereotypes that get repeated as fact.
Some people in .ml and hexbear were labeled tankies, accurately or not, and now you’re all tankies. And this post seems to be in response to that, saying the word tankie isn’t even a real thing. And now we have comments suggesting lemmy.world is also a unified group promoting certain ideologies. It’s the largest instance, we’re gonna have one-off crazies saying stupid stuff.
I know it does makes a small difference being on .world vs .ml/hexbear. But most people in both are leftists if what I’ve seen is accurate. We’re just being stereotypical leftist splintering ourselves into separate groups over the smallest differences.
And apparently discuss.tchncs.de
What’s their history?
Unintended may be somewhat true, in that nobody explicitly had that as a conscious reason, but it was an obvious result that they could’ve known beforehand. So I don’t think it’s useful at all to call it unintended. Just an easily understood and expected side effect
That’s a fair enough critique. They definitely should have known what would happen, but this is more for the new users who came after defederation.
People who are downvoting this dont like to have fun
I downvoted because after staring at it for 15 seconds I still had no idea what data it tried to transmit or what the message was. It’s just a bad infographic.
you must be one of them tankies /s
Sir, madam, or enby, this is a c/memes.
Sir, madam, or…
Ethical non binary yankee?
Close! Non-Binary → N.B. → enby
Thanks, TIL! (Also, while you explained it well I still took so long to understand. Guess I’m having a slow day 😅)

I’m browsing memes on lemmy, not planning a moon landing.

Imagine being mad you can’t understand a pie chart divided into two colours, imagine being mad at a joke. Have we all forgotten this is !memes@lemmy.ml ??
I literally made charts detailing that the majority of responses said they were tankies, and then I provided you the details.
Downvotes are for rule breaking content, not for covering your big feelings.
Downvotes are for rule breaking content, not for covering your big feelings.
You’re wrong about that. There’s the report button for that.
By the way, I did not down-vote you, but about the criticism towards your work, yes, the info-graphics isn’t well done, because you crammed all that in one single image. I was able to read it, but it was painful.
Another concern is the small dataset. It is in two digits, which isn’t a proper representation of the general consensus.

I’m not mad, I just tried to understand the meme and after a fair effort I didn’t, so I downvoted because it was a poor meme.
I’m sorry the downvotes hurt your feelings.
For rule breaking content there is the report function.
You’re a dick
Why are there like four sections each labeled “yes” and “no” with no other distinguishing information?
deleted by creator
You didn’t answer the question of why there are 4 sections…
Are you a tankie:
No: 40.5
No: 37.9
No: 30.2
No: 37.8
Yes: 65.2
Yes: 50.1
Yes: 23.1I made up the numbers but this is not how pie charts work.
ya it’s kind of poor labelling in OP’s part. Those are supposed to be “answered by uses that are not from hexbar/lemmygrad”, I also don’t know why the lemmy.ml vs others get their own ring instead of combining with the inner ring, it’s not like you can be in both instance at the same time as a single user.
Some of these graphs are just very hard to read even with the explanation another user gave
skill issue
The “everyone’s a tankie who disagrees with me” I’m convinced is a new meme.
That’s what happens when you defederate from pro-Marxist instances. Zionists and anti-Communists start joining this anti-Marxist space and you have a whole new Red Scare on your hands.
Shitlibs gonna shitlib
Tankies gonna tank
The fact that Hexbear polled more no than yes is so fuckin funny to me.
hexbear is officially anti tankie, I don’t make the rules. RIP
Fuck tankies, Khrushchev should have nuked Hungary
This instance currently allows new community creation, however the following subjects are explicitly not allowed as communities.
- No Tankie shit.
They asked 5 people and they were smart enough to say no
Why does that instance still exist? Wow.
Why would it not?
I’ve never seen any good content coming from that instance. Only political bullshit and fighting.
It is a Left-unity server, with Marxists and Anarchists alike. It is going to be political by nature of the instance.
If you don’t care for politics, the Games community is very pleasant IMO, and if you’re trans, traa is hosted over there and it’s a very active community. Hexbear is largely self-contained and self-sufficient, there’s more than just politics.
I’m doing my part

What is the top graph? It seems to be some combined thing, but I can’t figure out what.
It’s a stacked/multi-level pie chart. If you read the single level, it highlights results for a single instance.
The first level is the overall ‘tankie’ and ‘non-tankie’ percentage across every instances.
The second level divides that between lemmy.ml and non-lemmy.ml instances, using color as an indication.
The third level divides that between hexbear.net, lemmygrad.ml and other instances.
Oh, that makes more sense! Thanks
Sorry its a bit confusing, its not serious though so its not worth stressing over
Reporter: [REDACTED]
Reason: Spam or AbuseReporter is having a bad time on lemmy.ml, what more evidence do you need?
That’s just sad, haha.
I’ve never seen a set of graphs with so few labels for everything it was showing
I’ve only ever seen people complain about them tangentially. Guess I’m not following the communities they usually pop up in
Lemmy is going through an Anticommunist Red Scare right now, particularly on Lemmy.world.

More pixels plz
Hexbear is how all communities should be in Lemmy .
