Also in my experience, when living abroad most Brits will describe themselves whilst ther to others there as expats, not as immigrants. So it’s not just used in Britain - as people living abroad whilst abroad say they’re expats - though it’s mostly Brits doing it.
The top one might even be called an “expat” rather than “immigrant”.
