Wanna know why it’s called Five Guys?

Because it takes the salary of five people to pay for one meal.

There’s a Five Guys in my city and whenever I’m reminded of it, I always wonder why I’ve never tried it before. Then I remember I always walk past it after seeing the prices on the menu.

It is good, but not worth the money. They were reasonable back when they first opened in my area. Then it went about 2x the price in a year. And kept going up.

Yep, when they had one near my office like 15 years ago, it was almost the same as McDonald’s and it was great…then prices have basically quadrupled and they’re not worth it at all anymore.

I suspect they keep the prices low the first year or so to establish a customer base and then start raising them.

Interesting and very unfortunate. I loved Five Guys when I first visited the US and they opened one up in Australia and the prices are so high it’s insulting and I’ve never been.

Sad to hear it’s the same in the US now.

Yea I think I’m pushing 10 years as well now. It’s good food…but it’s still fast food burgers for premium restaurant cost. It’s no longer worth it, hell my local burger places which are actual restaurants with waiters are usually cheaper by $10 or more for the wife and I and that’s with a 25% tip. How 5 guys is still open amazes me.

Yeah, this I can understand. Like Applebee’s does the 2 for 26 deal where you can get two burgers an appetizer and fries for about 28 bucks, granted they’re going to nickel and dime you if you want anything other than a standard Burger which is unlike Five Guys(which is about 22 for a bacon burger, large fry and shake) but you do get a little more food even if the burger isn’t as good.

As for how they’re still open, it’s because despite what others have said on this post. They are still one of the best quick restaurant around, they’re also one of the more healthier options. That combined with the fact that they’re one of the few fast food joints that actually pays their workers a living wage makes it a pretty big choice for people who want a quick and easy meal

That’s disappointing, in my area fast food didn’t really start skyrocketing in price until about 2019. But since then oh my God it is only gone up. My $12 meal without rewards has turned into a $19 meal with rewards which is ridiculous to me

I haven’t gone to a fast food joint myself unless the family is also going since then cuz it’s not worth it

The Wendy’s, McDonalds, and Hardees In my town are all closed or closing soon. They’ve priced their garbage quality food right out of what the people that would go there can afford. Good riddance. My only sympathy is for the folks losing a job, but working Fast food suuuuucks. I hope those folks find something better.

Wendy’s $5 or $6 meal deals… you get a double stack, nuggies, fries & a drink, and a frosty with each purchase for a year if you get their key tag.

Five Guys had crazy prices from the start and it marketed itself as NOT being fast food.

And it always sucked. Premium prices on garbage food.

All fast food burgers suck so “the best fast food burger” is a very low bar…especially when they’re charging restaurant prices…and they’re not all that fast at making it. 50% higher cost for a 10% better burger, I’ll pass.

It’s worse than a cheaper burger from a non-chain restaurant. And it’s WAY worse than a comparably-priced one.

I would rather eat a Five Guys burger than most if not any non-chain restaurant burgers as well. They are pretty topnotch. I honestly can’t think of a better burger that isn’t homemade.

Ive got plenty of delicious restaurants around haha. I’ve never been that impressed with a restaurant burger though, TBH. And seriously, FG burgers are damn good. Char grilled high quality beef made to order. What’s not to like? You’re acting like it’s McDonald’s quality. Can you show me an example that beats it?

Pro tip: If you order Five Guys through DoorDash, UberEats, etc, you should know that Five Guys doesn’t start cooking your fries until the driver gets there. Since these services usually give their drivers two or three stops at a time, and drivers know they will be delayed at Five Guys, drivers go out of their way to rearrange their pickups to get to Five Guys first. The Five Guys delay gives the other places a little extra time to complete their orders, so hopefully the driver will be able to get in and out with no additional delay.

It also means that your food will be waiting on the driver’s cold passenger seat the longest possible time.

All that is just a matter of practicality. The drivers are trying to make the best of a bad situation. Some, though, take it a step further: it’s not fair for the customers of other, better stores to suffer from Five Guys corporate policy. So they make sure the Five Guys order is not just picked up first, but also dropped off last.

Yeah why bitch about something being wrong. Just ignore it. I’m CERTAIN it’ll get better. We’ll step right in line.

      It’s been like that forever.

      It wasn’t $80, it was maybe $50

FG has always been more expensive. They try to keep things very fresh, they give you pretty large portion sizes.

But last time I went, my kids wanted plain hotdogs no toppings, we ordered 2 fries for the table drinks and one sandwich, ended up in the $70s

$8 for a grilled cheese, I can make 12 grilled cheese for $8. $12 for a hot dog, That’s enough to buy a whole pack of buns and dogs.

It’s like everything there is set to 10:1

Before Covid, fast food chains had lines out the doors. Restaurants had lines, you needed reservations. It’s been forever since I’ve even seen a place that was busy.

There has to be some form of happy medium where you can still make cheapish food and serve enough quantity to run a business.

They’re called taco trucks. Or if you’re really lucky, clearly unregulated pop-up taquerias that operate from like 6-10pm outside hardware stores and cheap grocers. The one near me also has a rotating cart: sometimes a frutera, sometimes tamales, sometimes elotes.

Man, I would kill for some nice cheap taco trucks around me, I used to live in an area with a decent Latino population. The trucks and restaurants we so damn good and affordable. I kinda moved into a food desert. There’s no lack of places to eat, but they’re all just low-value, high-price trash.
