How are they with media playback and battery life when playing media? Been yearning for a cheaper Linux tablet to replace my android one that I use for watching TV shows at night, or on a plane when traveling. if I could replace that with a cheap Chromebook running Linux, that would be a nice compromise.

Media playback has been just fine for me, both browser streaming and local files via VLC. Battery is a little harder for me to say because my battery, according to ChromeOS, was at 85% health, but I’ve watched 4-5 hours of YouTube straight one day when I was sick, and I think it was around 20% when I woke up and plugged in from 100%.

I run NixOS on an HP x360 14c. It’s pretty great tbh, batyery life is fantastic, and the computet is surprisingly powerful.

Get mrchromebox’ firmware on a chromebook and it actually becomes a useful computer.
